If you travel and stay in Lima, maybe you’ll be thinking about what to do during your stay here. There are many options of what to do, one of them is trekking. Doing long walks in many places.
Although trekking has usually been related to long and demanding mountain hikes, in this post I refer to short routes (between 5km to 8km approx.) and below 3000 meters above sea level. All of them can be done in one day leaving from Lima.
While you are traveling to Peru you may need to keep communication or a translation app. That’s why you may need to use one of our mobile phone plans for tourists to have a tourist sim card. In order to make a nice trip here in PeruSIM. Here we show you some trekking routes in Lima.
La Molina Ecological Park

Located in the hills of Las Viñas, in La Molina, this park is relatively new. Between the late 90’s and the 2000’s I used to come to climb hills and climb, and there was no park, it was just hills. The Municipality of La Molina has conditioned a walking and cycling circuit, viewpoints, and has also reforested an area with cactus and other plants that are adapted to this ecosystem of Lomas (desert-like in summer and green in winter).
You can walk to the classic viewpoint or to the guard house. Personally, I like to do the complete loop: go up in the direction of the guard house, continue climbing up the hill to the left, pass the climbing area and then go down the ridge, passing by the classic viewpoint and finish at gate 1.
Apu Siqay
Since it became famous on social networks, many people go there and unfortunately many do not take care of the place visited. It is important not to leave any garbage and not to climb on the sculptures, because they are obviously damaged. You can take pictures next to the sculptures but do not climb on them. The cloud cushion can be seen very early in the morning (that’s why they used to make camps) or at sunset.
It is located in the Rimac and still exist thanks to the great work of PLAFA “Protectores Ambientales de la Flor y Lomas de Amancaes”, an association that protects the hills, green space so necessary in our beloved Lima. I visited them in August 2019, and I was impressed to see so much vegetation, a little snake, the flowers of the wild potato, the black nettle, tiny flowers of the wild caigua, the beautiful begonias and even a vizcacha in the distance. There are two hiking trails, one short and one long.
Mangomarca Hills
Located in San Juan de Lurigancho and protected by the Lomas de Mangomarca Ecotourism Association, thank you for your great work. Let’s wait until they officially open to visit it.
Manzano Hills (Pachacamac)

The Lomas del Manzano are in Pachacamac, around the Cerro El Manzano which is approximately 700 meters high. Initially it was a place traveled mainly by cyclists and now it has also become very frequented by hikers. I do not know it yet but from the photos on social networks, it looks like an excellent place near Lima to walk during the green season. Lomas de Asia
Thanks to the work of the Comunidad Campesina de Asia, these hills are being conserved and they have implemented hiking trails, viewpoints and have done research on their ecosystem and the animals and plants of the hills. I have not visited them yet but hope to do so when they open, for the moment I have not seen official information that they are open.
There are nine trekking routes within the hills. In all of them it is necessary to be accompanied by a local guide and each route has a different guiding fee. The route for beginners is approximately 4km and the altitude ranges from 100 to 500 meters above sea level.
Calango – La Capilla
Calango, capital of the apple delight, is a district of the province of Cañete. I came in March 2021 in search of walking in the countryside and getting lots of sun. I walked through the apple fields, which abound and on the way I found a great variety of fruit trees such as giant guanábanas, avocados, quince, in short, a very productive land.
The Calango – La Capilla route can be done walking along the old track, it is approximately 6 km. On the way you can see an archaeological site, which unfortunately is abandoned and I hope that the invasions do not end up destroying it. The archaeological site on the way to the Chapel is abandoned. Finally, we know that you have to keep communication with your relatives and friends, that you need to be able to orient yourself in new cities, that you might need help with translation and that you might need to search for restaurants or hotels. That’s why with PeruSIM you can buy a SIM card including the data plan of your need without having to worry about high roaming costs.
