6 activities you can do in Lunahuana

Adrenaline, in a corner of the capital, is a way of life. And that place, called Lunahuaná, is a tourist epicenter where you can experience the most daring sports on land, in the water and in the sky. In addition, it is a place where you will have the green light to taste delicious wines and memorable meals.

Lunahuaná, one of the 16 districts of the province of Cañete at 48 meters above sea level, was created on August 4, 1821 by the Argentinean liberator Don José de San Martín. The paradisiacal district had to wait until 1994 to be declared as part of the tourist and cultural heritage of its province.

While you are traveling to Peru you may need to keep communication or a translation app. That’s why you may need to use one of our mobile phone plans for tourists to have a  tourist sim card. In order to make a nice trip here in PeruSIM. Here we show you some activities you can do at Lunahuana.

1. Canopy

It is literally like flying over the Cañete River, sliding down a cable with safety measures. In my case, I was nervous at first, but once I let go, I enjoyed the view and the sensation of flying. It does not require physical effort, because it is not necessary to hold on to anything (the harness and equipment support you), although intuitively you may want to hold on to the tape.

It is important that the guides are in charge of putting on and verifying that all the equipment has been put on correctly, and there should be a guide at the beginning and end of each tour.

This is another canopy that also crosses the Cañete River and is located in Lunahuaná itself. There are approximately 250 meters each way, one way and one way back.

2.  Ropes Field

The day I went to Lunahuaná I could not try the ropes course due to lack of time, but it looks like a lot of fun. It is a high altitude course where you have to overcome obstacles.  It is located in the San Jeronimo Campground. The photos below of Kanopy Lunahuaná.

3.  ATVs

To move forward you push a button and the harder you push it, the faster it accelerates. At the beginning I didn’t go fast and I stopped in dry until I found the right way. The ride takes about 30 minutes, starting on the track and then on the trail.  All agencies ride the same circuit approved by the municipality.  All of them must provide the safety helmet and glasses, very useful because otherwise all the dirt goes into the eyes.

4.  Rappel

If you are not afraid of heights or want to face the sensation of vertigo, you can rappel, another safe adventure activity. It consists of descending a wall, generally made of rock, sliding down a rope little by little. Here one controls the speed and requires a little effort in the arms, especially in the right arm (or left for left-handed people) because you have to let go of the rope (they give gloves to manipulate it). Don’t worry, there is always a safety rope controlled by the guide, no matter how much you let go, you won’t fall.

In the hills of Lunahuaná there are rocky areas where they have installed a 32 meter long rappel system. I recommend to do it in the afternoon, after 4pm because the sun in the morning is very strong.

Tip: Wear good shoes because you have to climb a small hill and it is better to have shoes that do not slip.

5.  Horseback Riding – Horseback Rides

It is not one of the most popular activities, but horseback riding is a great option. There are several lodges that rent horses and have their own routes. I recommend that before hiring you ask which roads you will be riding on and preferably that it is not the same route as the ATVs.

6. Rafting

Emblem of adventure in Lunahuaná. It can be done all year round and there are several routes starting with the basic level suitable for most people. It is a very safe activity, the river is well known by the guides and it is also done with safety kayaks. There are also intermediate and advanced levels, but that has a different price and requires more qualified guides.

Bring clothes especially for canoeing (including sneakers), because you will get almost completely wet. Finally, we know that you have to keep communication with your relatives and friends, that you need to be able to orient yourself in new cities, that you might need help with translation and that you might need to search for restaurants or hotels.
